OUT ON THE FLOOR TONIGHT part 2
INFERNO 002
Designed and produced by the Outta Sight team for UK retro label INFERNO and eaturing 16 Northern Soul classics and oddities culled from the past 35 years since the original "Out On The Floor Tonight" LP.
"The main thrust of Inferno stopped in 1980 when the Northern scene imploded. Bill and Gary left and I went back to my former job as a newspaper reporter. The success in 1981 of Soft Cell covering "Tainted Love" meant I could pay off the overdraft the business had run up, I still had UK rights to the Gloria Jones original version and re-issued it on 7-inch, and came up with a 12-inch single as well. Encouraged by this, in between looking for headlines at work, I picked up the rights to Dobie Gray "Out On The Floor" and if it had not been for a problem with the way the pop charts were compiled the week of release I would have had a hit from my kitchen table! Having success with the single "Out On The Floor" could have led to me coming up with a second Out On The Floor Tonight, but it didn't.
Here, then, finally is Part Two. Better late than never, and dedicated to Bill Baker and Gary Griffin and everyone who bought the first album".
