A. Shirley Ellis - Soul Time
B. Lynne Randell - Stranger In My Arms
SHIRLEY ELLIS is perhaps best known for her novely pop songs such as “The Nitty Gritty” and her million selling “Clapping Song” which actually was marginally more successful in the UK, peaking at No.6 in 1965. But for Northern Soul fans it all happened a year later in 1966 with “Soul Time”, the perfect title, the perfect intro and the unforgettable chant “Ready, get set, 2-4-6-8-10, 2-4-6-8-22”! LYNN RANDELL, for a period in the mid-sixties, was Australia’s most popular female pop star, becoming known as Miss Mod Australia! She toured the USA with the Monkeys and performed alongside Jimi Hendrix. Here we feature her Northern Soul cut “Stranger In My Arms” originally pressed as the B-side to her Australian hit “Ciao Baby”.
